What is Dearmouring? An Introduction to Body Dearmoring

Ever feel like your emotions are stuck? Like you're literally carrying stress in your body? You're not alone. Many people walk around with what we call "body armoring" - chronic tension that has nested itself in your muscles and connective tissue.

What is Dearmouring Exactly?

Dearmouring, also called "dearmoring", is a form of bodywork where we release stored tension and emotions from your body. The concept originally comes from psychologist Wilhelm Reich, who discovered that trauma and suppressed emotions are physically stored in your body.

Imagine: every moment you hold yourself back, every conflict you don't stand up for, every time you have to be "strong" when you actually want to cry - all those moments store themselves as tension in your muscles. Slowly but surely you build an "armor" that protects you, but also holds you captive.

How Does It Work?

During a dearmouring session I work with targeted pressure on specific tension points in your body. These are often places where you unconsciously hold tension - your jaw, chest, pelvis, abdomen.

What's interesting: when we release this physical tension, the associated emotions often come loose as well. People can spontaneously start crying, laughing, shaking or simply feel enormous relief. Your body literally lets go of what it has been holding for years.

Why Would You Do This?

The benefits of dearmouring are diverse:

  • Less chronic pain: Especially neck, shoulder and headaches often decrease drastically
  • Emotional freedom: You feel less "closed off" and more in touch with your feelings
  • Better breathing: Many people breathe shallowly due to tension in chest and abdomen
  • More energy: When tension releases, energy is freed that was previously blocked
  • Deeper relationships: When you feel more, you can also connect more deeply with others

Is It Painful?

Honest answer: it can be intense. The pressure I apply can feel uncomfortable, and it's normal to feel tension increase before it releases. But it's not "bad" pain - it's the pain of something that finally gets to move.

Important: you always determine the boundaries. We work together, and I never go further than what you're ready for.

Who is Dearmouring For?

Dearmouring is especially suitable for people who:

  • Have lived "in their head" for years and want to reconnect with their body
  • Have chronic tension or pain complaints
  • Have difficulty feeling or expressing emotions
  • Are stuck in patterns they can't break through thinking alone
  • Have tried traditional therapy but feel like more needs to happen

What Can You Expect?

A first session always starts with an intake conversation. We discuss what you're dealing with, what your goals are, and if there are medical issues I need to consider.

Then I usually work from top to bottom: jaw, neck, shoulders, chest, abdomen, and sometimes pelvis. Each session is different, depending on what your body needs at that moment.

After the session many people feel both exhausted and relieved. Give yourself space to integrate what has been released.
